Botox ©

Botox is purified botulinum toxin which was developed to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing or removing wrinkles. The procedure is considered a safe, effective way of treating aging skin. Common areas for Botox injections include horizontal forehead furrows, verticle lines between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. Botox has proven to be the best non-surgical form of facial rejuvenation and is capable of producing dramatic, rapid improvements in your appearance.

The procedure works by weakening the facial muscles beneath the skin that are related to the wrinkles. Typically a small amount of Botox is injected into the area of the wrinkle as a minor in-office procedure. Botox works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. The result is the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin begins to smooth out after about 24-36 hours. The effects of Botox treatment will gradually wear off after approximately three to six months. The procedure can be repeated thereafter.

Patients can apply ice immediately after to reduce minimal redness and can return to their regular activities immediately after the procedure. Slight bruising can sometimes occur with the injections, although rare, if administered incorrectly, can lead to unwanted, albeit temporary, paralysis of facial movement. As with everything in cosmetic surgery, go to an experienced practitioner. Botox is minimally invasive and gives quick and amazing results.

Injectables / Fillers

Smooth dermal fillers are a popular option to deal with wrinkles and folds of the skin. Unlike Botox, fillers are injected to fill in a deep crease, and do not paralyze muscle. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance found in living cells and one of the major components of the dermis of the skin. HA retains water like a sponge and helps attract water and maintain water, hydrating your skin and increasing its volume and density.

Products liked Restylane and Juvederm are manufactured as injectable gels and are available as a minor in-office procedures. The transparent and colorless gel is used to fill in wrinkles or to enhance volume as in the lips, for a fuller, younger look. Local aesthetic is used at the time of the procedure to make injections comfortable. Ice compresses are then used after, to minimize redness or bruising. Clinical trials show HA can be effective for up to six months. Most patients choose follow-up treatments between 6-12 months. Patients can return to their regular activites the same day after treatment.

Jeuveau™ is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment that is specifically designed to address visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment functions similarly to BOTOX® Cosmetic and targets the muscles along the face to prevent them from contracting. Jeuveau™ can also improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines by smoothening out the skin to produce a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an aesthetic procedure performed to achieve better skin tone and to remove fine lines, spots and freckles from the skin. The chemical solution removes the outer dead layers of skin that tend to build up, and are sundamaged, wrinkled and plagued by color variations. Removing these layers of non-living skin, allows the body to generate a new layer of healthy skin cells which are free of the previous complexion problems. We are particularly fond of the Obagi Blue Peel.

At the time of the peel, the skin is first cleansed of oils. This alpha-hydroxy acid blue peel is then applied to skin to be treated. Most commonly, patients peel their face but other areas like the neck, shoulders, chest, shoulders, arms and hands can also be addressed. The application process is a 20-40 minute in-office procedure. With a chemical peel, you will experience a slight burning sensation lasting about 2 minutes. The skin is then neutralized and the bluish tint is then washed off and the skin moisturized. At the time of the procedure, active skin problems, like acne or infections, should be well under control. Also skin care and pre-treatment in the weeks before your chemical peel can maximize the positive results. A consultation with your cosmetic surgeon in advance can help develop a skin care regimen best suited to your needs.

After the procedure, one can return to their regular activities with a slightly “dry” look but otherwise no telling signs. Within 2 to 3 days, the peeling of the skin will begin and continue usually to 2 days. By the fifth day, one can return to work again with a slightly pink color and should be fully healed in 7 -10 days. Keeping the skin healthy and glowing is an ongoing process and a blue peel is an excellent option to achieve smoother healthier younger-looking skin. Discuss the process with your doctor for greater details.

Skin Care

Healthy glowing skin goes a long way to making you look great. Problem, aged or damaged skin takes a commitment to an ongoing regimen of care to transform the condition of your skin. Real beauty is skin deep and really does start from within. Ideal results are often not achieved with products purchased from a store because they don’t focus on healthy skin.
