A woman usually has a full nine months to prepare for one of the biggest changes of her life: motherhood. A new mother knows that the baby will cry, diapers will need to be changed, and she will likely be exhausted the majority of the time, but what many new mothers do not expect is the significant change that motherhood will bring to their bodies. Stretch marks, excess skin, and deflated breasts are just a few of the most common effects of pregnancy, which, unfortunately, no diet or exercise routine can correct.

For women who want to get their pre-pregnancy body back, Dr. Morales offers the Mommy Makeover at his Dallas practice. The Mommy Makeover is a customizable combination of procedures that will provide a firmer, more contoured silhouette.

Procedures Involved

Depending on the patient’s needs, the mommy makeover can include any combination of the following procedures: breast lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, or liposuction.

Breast Lift

A breast lift, also called “mastopexy,” is the ideal procedure for women who have lost breast volume which has led to sagging breasts. With just two incisions, any sagging skin or excess tissue will be eliminated, and the nipples will be relocated to a higher position on the breasts to create a more youthful appearance.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, or “augmentation mammaplasty,” is a procedure designed to increase the size of the breasts with the use of implants. There are many options available with regard to implant size, incision location, and implant placement, all of which will be decided upon during the consultation. If the patient has sagging skin, Dr. Morales may recommend a breast lift along with a breast augmentation to achieve the best results.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery, also called “abdominoplasty,” addresses the excess skin and fat in the abdomen that typically remains after childbirth. This procedure will correct stretched abdominal muscles to provide the foundation for the newly sculpted appearance. A full tummy tuck will address both the upper and lower abdomen, while a mini tummy tuck will address only the lower abdomen. Any excess fat is removed, and any excess skin is trimmed away to reveal a more slender and toned midsection. Stretch marks will also be removed if they appear on the skin that is removed during surgery.

Liposuction is ideal for women who would like to get rid of stubborn deposits of fat in a particular area of the body. Through a few small incisions in the selected area, Dr. Morales will insert a device that will melt the unwanted fat. The fat will then be eliminated from the body with vacuum suction. This procedure can target many areas of the body including the arms, back, abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. Patients should note that if they have excess skin in the treated area, liposuction may make it appear worse. Body contouring procedures (such as a tummy tuck) will excise sagging skin as well as remove excess fat to provide the best result.

Things to Consider

  • Those considering the Mommy Makeover should be done having children or at least not plan to have children in the next five years, as pregnancy will reverse the results.
  • Patients should maintain a stable weight for several months before the procedure.
  • Patients should be done breastfeeding before considering the procedure.

The cost of Mommy Makeover will be lower than if the patient were to get their chosen procedures at separate times. Combining the procedures will also allow for less time off from work or away from family. Sometimes, however, Dr. Morales will suggest separating the procedures if it is best for the patient.

The length of recovery time will depend on the extent of the procedures and on the patient’s ability to heal. There are several steps you can take that will help reduce recovery time, which Dr. Morales will review during the consultation. Generally, patients should plan for someone to care for them the first 48 hours after surgery. Swelling and bruising will be apparent for two to four weeks, and patients are usually able to resume exercise after six weeks. Once recovery is complete, patients can enjoy their new and improved post-pregnancy body, and the results will last for years as long they maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
