In order for a recovery process to go smoothly, your surroundings need to be set up in a way that will maximize comfort and help you manage the downtime you will have.

Making yourself comfortable is possible during any season, but there are 5 main reasons why the winter lends itself well to the recovery process and makes it the best time for plastic surgery.

Compression Garments

After undergoing a procedure such as a breast augmentation or breast lift, there will be compression garments provided by your physician for any swelling that may occur.

Wearing these garments and bandages are crucial when going through the recovery process of any surgery since they protect the wound and create less visible scarring.

During the summer, these extra layers may become hot or uncomfortable, but, in the cold chill of winter, the extra layers are a welcome addition.

You are also able to hide your wounds better since nobody would think twice about you wearing an extra layer or two.

Less Sun Exposure

There is a universally understood and accepted rule when it comes to body aesthetics: the sun is the enemy. It can create poor tissue quality and significantly decrease the quality of scar healing.

Luckily, the days are shorter in the winter, and clothing is more plentiful. Winter is when the enemy is at its weakest.

Extra Days Off

Most companies and businesses have some company-wide scheduled time off during the holidays. If you are planning on taking a few weeks off to recover, you might as well plan it on a week that you will already be out of work.

Plus is means your significant other, children or other loved ones will also be home more often to take care of you.

Ideal Time to Stick to a Recovery Diet

During the recovery process, it is essential to eat the right foods to help move the healing process forward. Having a diet with high levels of protein, vitamins, and minerals is highly recommended.

Some of the best recovery foods are vegetable soup and vegetarian chili, but there are plenty of other dishes you can find to make it through your liquid-only or soft-food diet.

Winter Is Basically Pre-summer

By the time summer comes around, you will be able to relax with your newly improved aesthetics. Scarring is likely to have significantly faded, and you no longer need to fear the dreaded sun as you did right after your surgery.

Most people don’t ever get around to getting their summer bods, but taking the winter to get some work done is a sure-fire way to make sure you have a confident, lively summer.
