Dallas Mommy Makeover

Women who have had multiple pregnancies and are no longer planning on having more children often turn to plastic surgery to reverse the effects of these milestone events. If left with sagging breasts and a protruding abdomen, women may opt to undergo a combination of body contouring procedures in what is termed a "Mommy Makeover." Dallas plastic surgeon David E. Morales, M.D. helps patients regain their pre-pregnancy figure.

"Mommy Makeover" Plastic Surgery

The most commonly performed procedures in a "Mommy Makeover" surgery are breast lift surgery ("mastopexy"), tummy tuck surgery ("abdominoplasty"), and liposuction ("lipoplasty"). Based on your individual anatomy, target area(s), and Dr. Morales' suggestions, a personalized surgical plan can be implemented.

If you are experiencing loss of volume in the breasts and would like to attain a more feminine contour, breast lift surgery may be of great benefit. Dr. Morales also performs breast augmentation ("augmentation mammaplasty") with the use of saline or silicone gel implants. When combined, these breast surgery procedures can help patients regain the bustline they had pre-pregnancy.

For those who would like to attain a flatter, slimmer midsection, Dr. Morales may perform tummy tuck surgery and/or liposuction. If you are have stretched-out abdominal muscles, either a standard or mini tummy tuck may ideal. However, if you only show signs of excess fat, lipoplasty alone may be better-suited to correct this bothersome feature. For many patients, the combination of these procedures produces optimal results.

Dallas Mommy Makeover Checklist

If you are considering surgery, we recommend:

  • You are done having children. If no plans for more children are in the works or at least none in the next 5 years or so, this may be an option for you.
  • Your weight has stabilized. During and after pregnancy, your body will go through wide swings in weight. Once your weight is stable, you can make a better assessment as to what areas are problematic for you.
  • You are done breastfeeding. Once you are done, the breast shape and size will stabilize, blood supply and glandular tissue with shrink and dry, and then surgery can be considered safely.

Costs and Planning

Mommy makeover procedures are modified and combined to meet your needs and concerns. These procedures can be safely done under one anesthesia. Often there is a savings advantage when more than one procedure is linked with another:

  • Less visits to the hospital
  • Family or child care assistance at home, after surgery can be shortened to one episode
  • Less time off from work since often the recovery is not much different when recovering from one procedure versus two or more.
  • Often the cost is less as well since financial consideration is given to the fact that multiple procedures are being done together.

However, not uncommonly, we separate procedures for the safest and best possible outcomes, as well as your concerns and priorities. The final cost and recovery will vary depending on your specific makeover and would be discussed at length with you before surgery.
